Washer (the band)

Josie Miller discovers the band, Washer!

I usually put on a playlist that Spotify randomly makes for me while I study and when I hear a song I like, I listen to just that band’s music. I’ve been doing this for a while and it is now one of the main ways I discover new bands I like, along with just getting music recommendations from people.

Recently, I stumbled upon a song called “Body” by Washer in one of these random playlists. I did my normal thing and looked up the band and began to listen to the rest of their work. “Body” from the album “Here Comes Washer” is their most popular song, but I personally was drawn to some others like “Tooth and Fist”, “Waning Moon”, “Come Back As A Bug”, and “King Insignificant” (I’ll stop there so I don’t end up listing their entire discography).

The band is made up of two guys, with Mike Quigley on guitar/bass/vocals and Kieran McShane on drums. They began performing in 2013 and have a bit less than 29k monthly listeners on Spotify. They are based in Brooklyn, NY and describe themselves as a rock band and their music as “indie leaning garage punk anthems”. The band does a lot with a little, considering they only have two guys.

I believe I have listened to almost all of their music and have had it on repeat over the past couple weeks. Unfortunately, I can’t study with it any more and have had to move on to some other random bands that I’m sure I’ll end up having the same issue with. My favorite album of the 3 they have released is probably “Improved Means to Deteriorated Ends”. If you get the chance to listen to them, you totally should. I really enjoyed their music and I’m glad I got distracted by them while I was studying.

“Punk rock minimalism at its finest” A quote about Washer…from Washer :)

Hope you guys check them out! :P
